Italy has shaped human history, and is home to many of its finest treasures.  Here we touch the past, experience the flower of Renaissance culture, and reach back through centuries to the height of the Roman Empire.  We discover how a volcano called Vesuvius swallowed an ancient city, and live its poignant story.   But we also discover today's Italy in the lush and beautiful Tuscan countryside and the warmth of the Italian people.

Adventure Highlights

Trip Details:
Day 1  On arrival day, we check into our hotel, and take a late afternoon tour of “Imperial Rome,” including the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, and the Circus Maximus. Pizza tonight at a restaurant near Trevi Foundation, or Piazza Navona.

Day 2  This morning we enter the Sistine Chapel, for a look at Michelangelo’s greatest work. Then it’s off to the Vatican Museums, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Then, free time for shopping, and walking the historic streets of Rome.

Day 3  On this amazing day we get to know the real Rome few others see. Take a tour behind the scenes to the Spanish Steps, then make your own Italian Pizza and learn about authentic Italian cuisine.

Day 4  Visit the legendary town buried by Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD, and learn the story of Pompeii’s people and the volcano that roared to life. Nearby, take a dip in the Mediterranean at the coastal town of Sorrento.

Day 5  This day is spent in beautiful Tuscany, where we visit the medieval town of Siena, and have lunch in the Chianti Valley. Evening arrival in Florence.

Day 6  An amazing day in Florence, home of Renaissance treasures. We view Michelangelo’s David, visit the Duomo, the Piazza Della Signoria and other sights. After lunch we are free to enjoy the city at walking speed, and absorb the incredible sights.

Day 7  Morning transfer to Pisa. We visit the Piazza Miracoli and the Leaning Tower. Afternoon return to Florence. Final night farewell dinner.

Day 8  Our day begins with a relaxed breakfast and fun morning group activity. Then it is off to the airport for our return flight home.
