Confidence for Parents and Teachers
At Earth Explore, our committment to student safety is second to none. It begins with the selection of adult chaperones already known to parents, and continues with the best student to leader ratio of any educational travel experience in the nation. Since our inception, we have never had a student experience a serious injury requiring hospitalization. In this we are unique in the student travel field.
Adult Supervision
Earth Explore has in place the most rigorous chaperone selection process in the youth travel field. Our Leaders must be classroom teachers, and come from the same schools from which our students travel. They must also be directly recommended by a parent, as well as their principal or school administrator. This assures leadership that is the finest in youth travel.
Adult to Student Ratio
Earth Explore maintains the lowest adult to student ratio of any similar program in the nation. Our ratio averages 1 to 6 during travel, with a ratio of 1 to 5 the average during program activities conducted with our partners.
Exclusive Partnerships
Earth Explore is priviledged to work with exclusive and renowned program partners. Our long-term relationships with organizations as diverse at the Teton Science School, Alaska Geographic, the University of Hawaii, the Yellowstone Association and others insures that the needs of our participants come first, and they are well taken care of, wherever they travel.
Travel Managers
Our on-site Travel Managers handle every travel contingency and are in regular contact with the National Office. They are a key resource for our teacher/chaperones, and coordinate every aspect of logistics so that our teachers are focused solely on the needs of the students.
24 Hour Staffing
During the travel season, Earth Explore's office features 24 hour staffing, insuring that any contingency that may arise is handled quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
Pre-Travel Preparation
Earth Explore provides all teachers with complete pre-travel preparation materials that cover curriculum, safety, travel skills, and teamwork. All students take part in a series of fun and informative orientation sessions in the weeks and months before travel. This ensures that students and parents receive the information they need to participate successfully.
In addition, all Earth Explore participants and their parents are required to agree to a statement of Rules and Guidelines that require high standards of personal conduct and respect toward other group members. All participants also submit a Health and Medical Form, which authorizes treatment in the event of emergency, and contains important contact information. These forms are carried by the Leaders, and are also on file in the National Office. In addition, all participants take part in a pre-acceptance interview conducted by teachers, as well as a series of preparation session meetings stressing safety, travel skills and other key topics.
Leader Handbook
Our Leaders and Travel Managers are issued a comprehensive Travel Handbook which has helped to guide our groups for the past fifteen years. It covers everything from teamwork issues, to hotel safety and travel emergencies, and insures that travel proceeds smoothly at all times.
Accident Insurance
All group members are covered under an umbrella accident insurance policy, which provides comprehensive coverage in the unlikely event of injury on the program.
